Senator McColley has served in the Ohio Senate since 2017 and graduated from law school at the University of Toledo.
Members of the Ohio Senate Majority Caucus today unanimously elected Senate President Matt Huffman (R-Lima) to once again serve as President of the Ohio Senate for the 135th General Assembly. First elected to the Ohio Senate in 2016, Senator Matt Huffman was re-elected in 2020 to his second term. He has served as Senate President during the 134th General Assembly, and prior to that as Majority Floor Leader. Huffman previously served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, culminating in his election as Speaker Pro Tempore.
Senator Matt Huffman explains, “We’re obviously trying to complete the work of the commission to the extent that we can with the somewhat constrictive parameters that we have from the various courts. A lot is going on. We have a guy that knows much or more about redistricting than I do is Senator Rob McColley and that’s why I wanted to make sure we made this change and it’s a good one.”
An Ohio lawmaker has introduced legislation to give residents a voice on wind and solar projects that could be built in their area. 1st Dist. State Senator Rob McColley co-sponsored the bill that would give township residents additional options to voice their opinion on development of wind and solar projects in their area. The proposed law would permit boards of trustees to adopt a resolution authorizing the rights of residents to petition for a referendum, which will give them the chance to vote on the projects.
Senate Bill 22 which was co-authored by Ohio’s 1st District State Senator Rob McColley, will allow the general assembly’s input on health orders by the state. The bill was originally vetoed by Governor Mike DeWine but was overridden by the general assembly earlier this month. We spoke to McColley on what they plan to do if health orders are still in place when the bill goes into effect.
