A Hancock County judge has sentenced Michigan man to over two decades in prison for shooting a Findlay trooper during a traffic stop in the fall of 2021. 43-year-old Robert Hathorn will serve a minimum of 26 to a maximum of 31 years in prison for the six charges he was found guilty of during a trial in June.  Some of the charges include felonious assault of a peace officer, aggravated robbery, and tampering with evidence.  

43-year-old Robert Hathorn was convicted on charges including felonious assault, aggravated robbery, failure to comply with police officer, tampering with evidence, and two counts of having weapons under disability. Hathorn represented himself during the trial. No sentencing date has been set. On the night of October 6th, Trooper Josef Brobst stopped Hathorn's car for speeding on I-75 around Findlay. According to troopers, Hathorn was asked to get out of the car when Brobst smelled marijuana. The two men were standing behind the patrol cruiser when they began struggling over the trooper's gun and Brobst was shot in the lower body.

The trial for a Michigan man who is charged with shooting a Findlay trooper during a traffic stop in 2021 began Monday. 43-year-old Robert Hathorn was indicted on charges including felonious assault, aggravated robbery, failure to comply with a police officer, tampering with evidence, and two counts of having weapons under disability. Hathorn will be representing himself at trial despite the judge recommending against it.

The trial for 43-year-old Robert Hathorn is scheduled to start on June 6th in Hancock County Common Pleas Court. He has also requested that he represent himself in the trial, even though the judge was against that decision. Hathorn was indicted on charges including felonious assault, aggravated robbery, failure to comply with police officer, tampering with evidence, and two counts of having weapons under disability.

42-year-old Robert Hathorn's trial was set to begin on Jan. 31st, but this week he fired his attorney. The judge has around two weeks to find another attorney. Hathorn is charged with felonious assault of a police officer, aggravated robbery, and four other felony charges. Law enforcement says that Hathorn was pulled over by Trooper Josef Brobst on October 6th. The two men struggled for Brobst's firearm. The weapon went off, striking Brobst and Hathorn went on the run. A manhunt went on for 12 hours before he was captured by law enforcement. No new trial date has been set in his case.

Hathorn is currently facing a single charge of aggravated robbery, but additional charges could come after the case is heard by a grand jury which possibly could happen within the next week. Authorities say trooper Josef Brobst stopped Hathorn's car for speeding last Wednesday on Interstate 75 near Findlay. Hathorn was asked to get out of the car when Brobst smelled marijuana.

A search for a man involved in a violent traffic stop came to end in Findlay on Thursday.  42-year-old Robert Tramaine Hathorn was taken into custody after leading police on a more than 12-hour search.
