There was a swarm of little ghosts and goblins Tuesday evening in Wapakoneta! The Armstrong Air and Space Museum hosted "Boo! On the Moon" event Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 PM.
The Armstrong Air & Space Museum will be hosting a free public talk with former NASA astronaut Story Musgrave at the Wapakoneta Middle School auditorium on Thursday, November 10, at 7:00 pm. Dr. Musgrave is best known for being the only astronaut in history to fly aboard all five space shuttles. Dr. Musgrave also holds the honor of being NASA’s most formally educated astronaut, having earned six degrees over the course of his career. Dr. Musgrave served in the field of medicine before being accepted into the NASA Astronaut Corps in 1967 as a scientist-astronaut.
"The impact of Neil Armstrong is still felt in our community fifty years later," said Steve Henderson, Interim Mayor of Wapakoneta. "Our residents have always grown up with this unbelievable landmark, and future generations will continue to learn about our hometown hero -- and he never wanted to be called that -- with continued inspiration."
The Learjet was unveiled to the community as part of the museum's 50th-anniversary ceremony. The jet once housed Neil Armstrong after his adventure on the moon and thus broke many records with it, such as total altitude in a horizontal flight. Museum officials say that the Learjet will not cost anything to view for Wapakoneta residents and beyond.

The four-day festival to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon officially starts Thursday, July 14th in Wapakoneta. During the annual event, there will be food, activities, and music either downtown Wapakoneta or out at the Armstrong Air and Space Museum. Some of the favorites have expanded for this year’s festival.
The Learjet 28 was brought from the Armstrong Airport in New Knoxville to the museum disassembled on top of three separate semi-trailers. The museum got the plane on Armstrong's birthday in August 2020, but they have been working on getting the jet for years before that. Now they are glad to see the plane that he flew following his career at NASA.
Construction on exhibit grounds for the plane has begun on the southwest lawn of the Armstrong Air & Space Museum Grounds. The Learjet 28 will be set up almost parallel to the F5D Skylancer display. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the exhibit is currently planned for the museum's 50th anniversary on July 20th of this year.
