Area entrepreneurs compete at Pitchfest to obtain funding as they start or grow their local businesses. The competition is hosted by the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Rhodes State College, the Walter C. Potts Entrepreneur Center, and the Lima Area Chamber Foundation where up to $10,500 of funds will be awarded to the winning candidates. Entrepreneurs present their product or service to a panel of judges, and they are evaluated on how well their business plan will produce financial success in today's economy and job market. Organizers of Pitchfest hold this event to promote an avenue where small businesses can help thrive the local economy.
A Wapakoneta Girl Scout just made a tremendous purchase for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office that will benefit the entire county! Emma Hunley with Troop 2063 raised $50,000 and purchased a brand new pickup truck for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office DARE program. She pursued this project to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award which is the highest award in Girl Scouts and equivalent to the Eagle Scout. When Emma heard the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office budget would be reduced due to decreases of tax revenue from the pandemic, she knew she had to help, and with her dream becoming a reality, Emma hopes she inspires other girls that they can do anything.
A local family that's been involved in manufacturing for decades has made a major investment in a program that will help train workers for years to come. Thanks to his training at Rhodes State College, the technical skills Isaiah Thompson has learned to program this robot to play Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" are the same that he is using as an apprentice at GROB Systems, working with a variety of robots in the manufacturing field.

A domestic dispute led to a stabbing in Perry Township on Monday afternoon. According to the Allen County Sheriff's officials, 19-year-old Anthoney Zeisloft is in jail on the charge of felonious assault. Just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday, deputies were called out to the 1800 block of Lennox Avenue for reports of a stabbing. The victim was transported to the hospital before they got there. Deputies and detectives were given Zeisloft's description and they quickly picked him up about 10 minutes later.

As we age, our health is often at the top of our minds. A new national poll from the University of Michigan finds the cost of many types of health care at the top of many older adults’ lists of health-related concerns. The poll found that 56% of people over 50 say they are very concerned about the cost of medical care for older people in their community, and nearly as many said the same about the cost of prescription drugs. The cost of health insurance and dental care were also top concerns.
May 13, 2024, Press Release from the office of Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Today, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and representatives from the Ohio Expo Center & State Fairgrounds broke ground on two buildings to revitalize the fairgrounds in Columbus, the Ohio Showcase Building and the new agriculture building. The projects are part of the long-term master plan recommended by the Expo 2050 Task Force. Governor DeWine created the task force in 2019 to develop a strategic vision for the future of the 360-acre state fairgrounds, which has been home to the Ohio State Fair since 1886. Once constructed, the Ohio Showcase Building will house a food hall and exhibit space to tell the story of Ohio’s people, land, communities, and innovation. The food hall will house six restaurants/vendors that will offer unique regional dishes from throughout Ohio, with ample indoor and outdoor dining space. This building is slated for completion in 2026.
