A leader of education from Apollo Career Center has been awarded as Ohio's Treasurer of the Year. Maria Rellinger, Treasurer and CFO at Apollo, has been bestowed the 2024 Outstanding Treasurer/CFO of the Year Award from the Ohio Association of School Business Officials Foundation for School Business Management at this year's conference and expo in Columbus. On Monday evening, the Apollo Board of Education recognized Rellinger, and Executive Director, Katie Johnson, of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials traveled to Lima to present Rellinger her engraved trophy. Rellinger has been the Treasurer/CFO at Apollo for 7 out of her 17-year career, and we talked to Rellinger about the impact this award has on her.

The Elida Local School District has hired a new treasurer to operate the district's fiscal responsibilities. Larry Kaiser has been named as Elida's next treasurer. Kaiser served as treasurer for Continental Local Schools for the past 2 years with 4 years of prior experience working for an information technology center serving numerous area school districts, including Elida. At Tuesday night's Elida School Board of Education meeting, we talked with Elida Superintendent, Joel Mengerink, about what qualities he observes in Kaiser to positively guide the district.

Tuesday, Rick Eddy filed a "designation of treasurer" to start campaign finances to run for Lima Municipal Court Judge. Current judge, David Rodabaugh is retiring after next year. Eddy has been the city's chief prosecutor since 2016 and in the prosecutor's office since 2008. He believes his experience is the right fit to be a municipal court judge and has goals he would like to achieve in the judge's seat.

Robert Sprague visited The Central District's Makerspace to meet with entrepreneurs to talk about what programs are available to them to take advantage of. The partners in The Central District say some local business owners need to be pointed in the right direction to help them take their next step, to start or expand their business.

Last Monday, the Ohio Department of Education sent a letter to the board informing them that they have been released from fiscal caution. The decision came based on an improved May 2021 five-year forecast, the board has made decisions like joining Vantage Career Center to reduce costs, the passage of the March 2020 .5% levy, as well as having no buildings appearing on the EdChoice Designated List.

The Allen County Republican Central and Executive Committee has appointed Krista Bohn as the new county treasurer. She has spent the past 3 years as Chief Deputy of Finance for the Allen County Treasurers office, and before that has spent around 6 or 7 years as GM Coordinator for cashier and admin staff at Pepsi Co. in Lima. She hopes to continue the goals she has been working on as interim treasurer.
