The Ohio Democratic Party stopped in Lima as part of its statewide “Husted’s Real World Tour” criticizing comments made by U.S. Sen. Jon Husted about poverty and navigating “the real world.” Local Democratic leaders said Husted’s remarks were out of touch with the economic struggles facing many Ohio families.
Thousands of dollars were donated to a local food pantry aiming to ensure area veterans do not go hungry. A little over $3,700 was donated to the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio. The money was raised by Reineke Family Dealerships and the Lima UAW Local 1219 during their 7th annual Veterans’ Car Show earlier in October.
The 7th annual Veterans’ Car Show in Lima brought together car enthusiasts to raise funds for the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio, with additional support from the Ford Drive 4 UR Community event.
Lima celebrated Labor Day with its annual parade, honoring American workers, highlighting union pride, and showcasing community spirit from UAW members to Lima City Schools.
This is the 6th year that the UAW Local 1219 and Reineke Family Dealerships have teamed up to help the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio in Lima.
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima's UAW hosted their 5th annual Veterans Car Show Saturday afternoon.
According to UAW Local 1219 officials, around 90 temp works at the Lima Ford plant have been laid off, along with temps at several other Ford plants across the country.
A local car dealership and union members teaming up to help some veterans that could use a little extra help. This is the 4th year for the Veterans Car Show at the Reineke Ford Lincoln in Lima. Over 160 classic and custom cars and trucks were on display and had the chance to take home a trophy. This collaboration between the dealership and the UAW local 1219 Veterans Committee benefits the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio. Last year they were able to raise around $3,000 to help with the need at the pantry, and community came out again to offer their support.
The Ford Ramp Crew of the UAW Local 1219 Labor Union were at a home on Reservoir road in order to install an access ramp to the property. The ramp will help the family be able to move between their home and outside more efficiently. Previously, the family had trouble getting out of the house when they needed to head outside. The Ford Ramp Crew works to install or remove ramps to families houses in the summer. The crew generally recycles ramps that are taken down to be used for another home.
