36-year-old Brandon Fair is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, two counts felonious assault, and aggravated robbery. Fair was arrested in connection to the shooting that took place on February 1st in Convoy. A second suspect is still being sought in the case. Deputies say that two subjects entered an outbuilding at a residence on Elm Sugar Road where someone was living. There they assaulted and shot the resident. The 29-year-old victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The reason for the attack is currently unknown. Fair is being held on a $250,000 bond and will have his next pretrial in March.

Eunice Bernhardt, 57 of Ohio City was sentenced up to nine years in prison for three counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor.  She was indicted by a Van Wert Grand Jury on a total 12 counts, but as part of a plea deal, nine charges were dropped. According to the indictment, the offenses happened between mid-April to the end of May of 2020. She was also classified as Tier II Sex Offender, meaning she will have to register her address with the sheriff's office for the next 25 years. 

A Willshire man will spend time in prison after pleading to causing the death of a man in a car crash last year.

In Van Wert County Common Pleas Court, Ronald Schumm was sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide. He also will have his driver's license suspended for three years. Schumm is responsible for the death of 56-year-old Steven Moshier.

It was August 2019 when Schumm collided with Moshier on U.S. 224 near the Indiana-Ohio border. Schumm, driving west, drifted left of center, side swiping an SUV then collided with Moshier's truck. A passenger of Moshier's was hurt as well. Alcohol was believed to have been a factor. Due to the virus, Schumm will begin his sentence at the end of the month. He's on house arrest until that time.

25-year-old Nicholas Tarbet pleaded guilty to one count of Gross Sexual Imposition. As part of the plea deal, the charges of Rape and Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor were dropped. Judge Martin Burchfield sentenced Tarbet to 150 days in jail, three years of community control, and two years of intensive probation.

A Wisconsin man accused of rape in Delphos has entered a plea in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court. Alcides Lucas Ordonez-Cruz pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, gross sexual imposition and endangering children. Ordonez-Cruz was arrested by the U.S. Marshal's service in early March in Kentucky. The 27 year old was wanted by the Delphos Police Department for allegedly sexually assaulting a family member in December of last year. Law enforcement in his home state of Wisconsin couldn't find him and believe he fled the state because he was wanted in Ohio. He is being held on a $500,000 bond. He has a pre-trial set for next Wednesday, April 8.
