The City of Lima's Human Resources Director talked to council members about the upcoming process of selecting Lima's next Chief of Police. At Monday night's Human Resources Committee meeting, it was announced that current Lima Police Chief, James Baker, will plan to retire on July 7th. According to Lima Human Resources Director, Della Bradford, there are two Majors with the Lima Police Department eligible to take the Police Chief promotional exam. If one or both of the Majors decide not to run for Police Chief, the City of Lima will provide Lieutenants the chance to take the exam. Following Monday night's committee meeting, we talked with Bradford about the next steps of this process.

September 25, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted today announced the 34 schools receiving awards through the second round of the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program. With this announcement, 6,330 additional students across Ohio will have the opportunity to pursue a career technical education. Awarded schools will use the funding to upgrade their equipment in an effort to teach students the skills needed by Ohio businesses. Today’s awards will grow a variety of in-demand programs across the state including engineering, manufacturing, construction, and more.

September 5, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Commerce: COLUMBUS, Ohio – New rule changes proposed by the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB) will take effect tomorrow, Sept. 6, creating a new pathway for contractors to become licensed with the State of Ohio. OCILB is within the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Industrial Compliance and is responsible for issuing licenses to qualified electrical, HVAC, plumbing, hydronics and refrigeration contractors who successfully pass the PSI licensing examination.

Through an apprenticeship at GROB Systems, Inc., students will have opportunities to gain skills in several areas. Our Katie Honigford spoke with one apprentice in the mechanical pathway as part of our Growing STEM series. Mechanical apprentice Cameron Hedrick found out about the opportunities at GROB Systems, Inc. the way that many aspiring mechanics and electricians in our area do, by word of mouth and getting a look while still in high school.

Katie Honigford spoke with one employee who did just that for our "Growing STEM" series. GROB Systems Inc., located in Bluffton, takes time to reach out to local youth about getting involved with their on-site apprenticeship training, and that's exactly how Dakota Bricker got his start working with, and now for, GROB.
