White passed away in late July after a six-year battle with ALS. He was a former Lima Senior football player who went on to play for Ohio State. From there, he went on to play for the NFL for 11 years. The service included touching tributes from friends and family members along with worship songs. White's son tells us his father was a man of faith, and everyone can take some wisdom from his legacy.

The Lima City School, Ohio State, and NFL standout passed away last month after battling ALS since 2016. White would go on to play college football with the Buckeyes in the mid-'80s, then was drafted by the Detroit Lions. White played for the Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Atlanta Falcons. Even when he was diagnosed with ALS, White continued to be a fixture in the Lima area.

Organizers met on Thursday for the upcoming ALS walk in Lima later this year. ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease which is a progressive and fatal disease that affects the brain and spinal cord has impacted one of our own community members. William White, a former Ohio State football player who was diagnosed with ALS in 2016, will be participating in the ALS walk and will even be bringing some other high-profile people including Barry Sanders, Archie Griffin, and Clark Kellogg. White also wants to bring awareness to ALS and hopes you show up to support the cause.

You never know when a life-changing opportunity can arise, but if you practice and get better, you will be ready for it. Former NFL player and Ohio State and Lima senior graduate William White spoke to the students in the Closing the Achievement Gap program at North Middle School. White talked to the students about how important practice is to improve, not only in athletics but in academics too. When he was younger he struggled with his grades, but through practice with math and other subjects, White was able to graduate with an engineering degree from Ohio State University.
