Plenty of people have won smaller prizes in the lottery game, but no one has matched all six numbers and won the grand prize since October 14th. Those 25 straight drawings without a winner have allowed the top prize to roll over and grow larger for three months. It's now the fifth-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. If there is not a winner Friday night, the jackpot will inch closer to the record of more than two billion dollars.
The Community Enrichment Dinner brought people together to recognize those people and businesses in this area that are rising to make their mark.
Charles Thomas has worn many hats during his lifetime in Lima and has always pushed for equity and inclusion. From his first day on the job in 1957 where he was the only minority in a pool of 200 employees, to his time behind the microphone at a local radio station. Thomas spent many years working with children at juvenile court, then becoming a juvenile probation officer and also working for the Lima City Schools. Working with the youth inspired him to continue his journey toward inclusion.
Bradley says that Rhodes State College is starting with themselves first to increase inclusion as they are partnering with the Ohio and the National Diversity Councils. This will give them a broader opportunity for professional development to enhance the college and their students.
Nominations are now open for the 24th Annual Safe Community Awards. Anyone who lives, works, or plays, in the Lima-Allen County community, is able to nominate anyone they feel has made an effort to keep Lima safe. Winners of the awards will be recognized on September 28th at the annual awards luncheon.
The awards were handed out to the winners, and they were given a chance to speak about the time that they have given to their communities and the people living there. They were also given $350 to go towards supporting their charity of choice.
There will be a ceremony on April 19th at the City Club in downtown Lima where the top award winner will be announced to be our area’s representative at the National Jefferson Award Ceremony.
