The Diocese of Toledo recognized four people who embody the spirit and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bishop Daniel Tomas handed out the Drum Major award to Dr. Francis and Roseline Oruma for their work with the underserved and help those in medical need. Bob Proby for helping bring the word of God to others and coordinate the local soccer program. Sharetta Smith for fighting for Lima as the city’s first African American and female mayor. The award winners have dedicated their lives to others and their community just like Dr. King.
“He said, ‘I wish to be a drum major for peace, for justice.’ and today we offered a mass for harmony here at St. Charles in Lima. And there were three recipients, a couple and two individuals have received those awards, who lives really reflect what Martin Luther King was dedicated to and what all of us called by Christ Jesus are devoted to in a particular way, to racial harmony, justice, and peace,” says Bishop Daniel Thomas.
The award winners were nominated because of their ability to help others and promote peace and racial equality in the Lima area.
