FORT JENNINGS, Ohio (WLIO) — Fort Jennings' Calvin Menke shows up and shows out for the Musketeers.
The senior is an All-Putnam County League stand-out in baseball, basketball and soccer.
And he's also leaving his mark in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA.
"Cal as an athlete is phenomenal. He works hard every day. He puts in the work every day, and you can see it on the field, both in practice and in games. He just, he's a difference maker and you can just tell that versus everybody else that's out there," said Fort Jennings baseball head coach Tyler Anderson.
Fort Jennings senior Calvin Menke is not only a difference maker in baseball but also in basketball and on the soccer field.
"Yeah, I mean, all three sports just brings out a competitor, something I always did as a young kid playing all sports. And I love competing, so it's just something I stuck with," said Calvin Menke.
"He brings it every day. There's a standard that he has set for himself, and every single day he doesn't go below that. So it's real nice to see. He leads by example, and he puts himself in a position to be successful," said Tyler Anderson.
Outside of sports, Calvin works just as hard in the classroom. The senior has a 3.8 GPA.
"One thing about Calvin is he is very, very hardworking. He puts a lot of effort in all of his assignments. He's very responsible, he turns everything in on time. So you can definitely see, you know, what he learns in sports and what he does in sports, he brings that also into the classroom," said Fort Jennings science Hayley Sager.
"I was always taught just school first, so the studying and everything that goes along with that's very important," said Menke. "Managing it is hard as a three-split athlete, but like I said, school comes first and get all that stuff done, then I can go out and compete and have fun."
After high school, Calvin plans to pursue a degree in nursing, a career influenced by his experiences as an athlete.
"I kind of just had a tough time when I was younger getting those surgeries, so the people I worked with throughout the whole process really helped me get over that tough time. So I want to do the same for kids like me, but in nursing and maybe further that into something," said Menke.
For Calvin Menke, his journey has always been about more than just competition — it's about showing up every day and representing Fort Jennings the right way.
"Yeah, it's meant a lot. Just trying to go out every day and compete and make the community proud, make family, coaches, everyone proud, and just be the best I can be," Menke said.
Congratulations to Calvin Menke — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
