HARROD, Ohio (WLIO) — Allen East Mustangs squared off with the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains for a sectional title, and the Mustangs delivered when it mattered most.
Allen East entered the night looking to regroup after dropping three of its last four games.
In the opening quarter, the Mustangs trailed by two before Brady Brooks drained a three-pointer from beyond the arc to give his team a one-point edge.
Later in the quarter, Allen East found itself down three. Deacon Jones took control, attacking the basket for two of his six points to pull the Mustangs within one.
Moments later, Jones grabbed a rebound and pushed the ball ahead to Travis Stanley, who finished at the rim. That sequence helped Allen East secure a 9-8 lead after the first quarter.
The Mustangs continued to build momentum in the second. Brooks knocked down a pull-up jumper and finished with a game-high 16 points.
Cam Smith matched that total with 16 of his own as Allen East maintained command throughout the second half.
Later in the contest, Smith connected with Keagan Jones, who converted an up-and-under move to keep the Mustangs comfortably in front.
Allen East secured the sectional championship with a 55-47 victory.
