LIMA, Ohio — The Lima Locos are champions once again.
Backed by clutch hitting and a dominant start from southpaw Johnathon Allen, the Locos defeated the Hamilton Joes 8–6 in a winner-take-all Game 3 at Simmons Field to capture their eighth Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League championship.
The offense got going early in the bottom of the first. Evan Holstein ripped a two-out double into the gap in left-center, scoring Payton Ebbing for the game’s first run.
Allen took care of the rest on the mound. The lefty worked six scoreless innings, allowing just five hits while striking out five to keep the Joes off the scoreboard and give the Locos offense time to build a lead.
Carter Schueler added to it in the fourth with an RBI double, bringing home Grant McGuire. A single by Will Briggs extended the lead to 4–0. In the fifth, McGuire drove a deep sacrifice fly to plate Ebbing again and make it 5–0.
Despite a late push from the Joes, Lima held on for the 8–6 victory—securing the franchise’s second league title in three years.
