MARIA STEIN, Ohio (WLIO) — The Marion Local Flyers picked up right where they left off after a first-round bye, rolling to a 42–12 win over Lehman Catholic in the Division VII regional quarterfinals on Friday night.
Coming into the game, Lehman Catholic’s high-powered offense averaged 47 points per game, while Marion Local’s defense had allowed just seven points a night. It was the Flyers who proved dominant once again.
Quarterback Brennen Hess connected with Brayden Mescher for a key first down in the third quarter, setting up a five-yard touchdown run by Kamden Eifert to extend the Flyers’ lead to 42–6.
Lehman Catholic showed some fight late, as Turner Lachey found Gus Richard on a long pass before connecting with Michael Rowley for a 10-yard touchdown. But Marion Local’s defense and balanced offense were too much to overcome.
With the win, Marion Local advances to face Fort Recovery in a Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) showdown next Friday night in the Division VII regional semifinals.
