MINSTER, Ohio (WLIO) — In the DIV. VI Northwest 5 bracket, New Bremen and Minster met for the second time this season after the Cardinals edged the Wildcats 32-31 back on January 29. Round two belonged to Minster.
The Wildcats set the tone early. Senior Reece Albers came up with a steal and took it coast-to-coast for the lay-in to open the scoring.
Moments later, Minster’s pressure defense created another opportunity. Annie Hemmelgarn poked the ball free and dished it ahead to Albers for the bucket. The senior led all scorers with 19 points.
New Bremen kept things close in the opening quarter. Down five, Allie Bornhorst knocked down a three-pointer from the top of the key to make it a one-possession game. Just before the buzzer, Halle Kuenning received the pass and beat the horn with a layup, pulling the Cardinals within two after one.
But as the game wore on, Minster began to separate. Jenna Belcher swooped in for a second-chance bucket as the Wildcats steadily built their advantage.
This time, Minster flipped the script, earning a 38-19 victory to advance in tournament play.
