CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — Celina's Brooke Baucher is a competitor at heart.
From the links to the hardwood, the Bulldog senior gets it done for both golf and girls basketball programs.
"She's an extremely hard worker that puts her all into everything every day and continues to improve on a daily basis," said her father and Celina girls basketball head coach, Bret Baucher. "Before she was, as a younger varsity player, she was kind of in that following role and this year especially, she's really stepped up to be a leader."
A leader on the links and on the hardwood, Celina senior Brooke Baucher has been a steady force for both the golf and girls basketball programs.
"I've played basketball my entire life, since probably second or third grade. And it's always just been a challenge, and I love challenges. So that's kind of why golf came into the picture.
My dad's a really big golfer. Golf is the biggest mental challenge there is.
So through that, I've learned so much that I can bring to every other part of my life," Baucher said.
"I think that mental toughness really has carried over to basketball. That next play mentality, next shot mentality, really carries over and has helped her improvement a lot," Bret Baucher said.
When it comes to her grades, Brooke is ranked second in her class with a 4.08 GPA.
"I think sports is a very important part of my life, but school is more important. Every day I use my time management skills to complete my homework first and foremost and study, and then athletics comes after," Baucher said.
"I think she takes the phrase student athlete seriously, and she's definitely a student first and then an athlete. But yeah, she works extremely hard. She's very driven to reach her goals. I think she's got a clear pathway in mind on what she wants her future to look like, and she's working really hard to get there," said Celina science teacher Jason Andrew.
After she graduates from Celina, Brooke plans to major in biomedical engineering.
"So engineering is like all problem-solving which is kind of my favorite part of school and then the biomedical part is all helping people so designing anything to help advance the medical field," Baucher said.
For Brooke Baucher, her years at Celina High School have been about more than academics and athletics.
"I think that this place has taught me so many of my life skills that I'll take forever. From time management to hard work to like morals, I think I'll take that forever," she said.
Congratulations to Brooke Baucher — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
