NEW BREMEN, Ohio (WLIO) — New Bremen senior Aaron Wuebker has been a steady presence for Cardinal athletics, excelling across multiple sports while standing out in the classroom. A state champion in football, Wuebker has also found success in basketball and track and field.

"I know during football season he's in the gym shooting, you know, even though he's playing football, he's just in the gym shooting free throws, trying to work on his skills still. So, it's just showing the commitment and what it takes to be a multi-sport athlete," said New Bremen boys basketball head coach Cory Stephens.

From football to basketball, and in track and field, New Bremen senior Aaron Wuebker will tell he's proud to represent the Cardinals in all three sports.

"It means a lot to me because I know the community and all the people in this town, it means a lot to them when they all come to the games and I know they're going to show up through the thick or through the thin. And so it means a lot to me to be able to put on a good show for them because they deserve it here," Wuebker said.

"You know, he's a leader, he's going to go about his business. You never got to worry about him, you know, doing the wrong thing. He's always going to do the right thing and what's needed and asked of him," said Stephens.

And as a student, Wuebker shines in the classroom. The senior has a 3.99 GPA.

"This year in my class, he's even splitting the time with a computer class, so he manages his own time and goes back and forth and makes sure he has all of his work done. So he's not only dedicated to getting high grades, he also puts in the work and asks the questions and does what he needs to do. He's really good at managing that and challenging himself," said New Bremen Spanish teacher Sarah Van Gorder.

"I think especially after growing into being a leader as a senior, I've been able to do a pretty good job of keeping myself accountable," said Wuebker. "Being accountable with my homework and my grades and keeping up in communications with my teachers has also been important for me to maintain a high GPA."

After high school, Wuebker plans to study dietetics at The Ohio State University in order to become a dietitian. "I think it's really interesting, like counting calories and tracking all sorts of things like that. So just doing that for a long time, I think it'll be really fun for me to do that," Wuebker said.

For Aaron Wuebker, it's not about recognition or awards. It's about the impact he leaves behind and the example he sets for those who follow.

"I just want to be remembered as someone who helped, push the next generation forward. And I want to be a reason, and I want to be a person that people look up to for years as somebody who was a good role model and did things the right way," he said.

Congratulations to Aaron Wuebker — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
