WAPAKONETA (WLIO) — Shawnee stayed perfect in Western Buckeye League play Friday night, pulling away in the second half for a 63-40 road win over Wapakoneta in a marquee WBL matchup.
The Indians entered the night tied with Van Wert atop the league and showed why, building a nine-point halftime lead before putting the game away after the break. Beckett Bertke led Shawnee with a dominant double-double, finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Trevick Bertke added 15 points as Shawnee improved to 5-0 in conference play.
Wapakoneta, which came in one game back in the league standings, was paced by Elliott Block with 12 points. The Redskins briefly cut into the deficit late in the first quarter but couldn’t keep pace as Shawnee’s offense continued to roll.
With the win, Shawnee remains tied for first place in the WBL, while Wapakoneta drops to 4-1 in league action.
