LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Spencerville used a strong second half to pull away from Lima Central Catholic and earn a 39-25 win over the Thunderbirds on Tuesday night.
The Lady Bearcats, who entered the game with a 6-1 record, took control late in the second quarter and carried momentum through the final two periods against the 1-6 Thunderbirds.
Lima Central Catholic briefly grabbed a second-quarter lead when junior Ava Gephart followed up a missed layup with a putback to give the Thunderbirds a three-point advantage. Spencerville responded quickly, however, as Tatum Schwartz knocked down a 3-pointer before halftime to send the Bearcats into the break with a three-point lead.
Spencerville widened the gap in the third quarter. Junior Jenna Wannemacher connected from beyond the arc to extend the Bearcats’ lead to five, and the visitors continued to control the tempo the rest of the way.
Wannemacher capped the run by pulling down a rebound and powering through contact for an and-one basket, helping Spencerville maintain its advantage.
The Lady Bearcats closed out the game to secure the 39-25 victory.
