WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — St. Marys remained in the mix near the top of the Western Buckeye League standings with a 56-41 victory over Wapakoneta on the road.

Entering the night, St. Marys sat tied for third in the WBL behind Bath and Ottawa-Glandorf, while Wapakoneta was still searching for its first conference win of the season.

The Redskins showed signs of life late in the second quarter after falling behind by 13. Audrey Welsch sparked the run by knocking down a jumper to cut the deficit to 10. Moments later, Paityn Diglia drilled a three-pointer from nearly the same spot, helping Wapakoneta close the half on an 11-2 run. Despite the surge, the Redskins still trailed 29-25 at the break.

St. Marys quickly regained control coming out of halftime. Claire Turner connected on a three-pointer to push the Lady Riders’ lead back to seven, halting Wapakoneta’s momentum.

The perimeter shooting continued for St. Marys, as junior Audrey Reineke buried a long-range triple to extend the advantage. The Lady Riders followed it up with strong interior play, highlighted by Kaya Fulmer finishing through contact for a bucket and the ensuing free throw.

St. Marys continued to build its lead in the second half, pulling away down the stretch to secure the 15-point conference win.
