LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team completed a doubleheader sweep Friday night, pulling away from Cleary for an 87-66 win in the second game at home.
UNOH set the tone early as Jyheim Spencer opened the scoring with a basket and a foul, finishing the three-point play at the line to give the Racers an early lead. The momentum continued with Antonio King knocking down a contested midrange jumper during a quick UNOH run. The senior led all Racers with 23 points.
Cornwell added to the surge by connecting from the corner, a sequence that quickly turned into defense-to-offense as UNOH came up with a steal and converted it into an alley-oop finish by Caleb Chapman. The play brought the crowd to its feet and forced Cleary to call a timeout with the Racers holding a slim advantage.
Later in the half, Alex Benson delivered with a tough fadeaway jumper as UNOH began to create separation. Corey Chesley capped the run with a strong finish, providing the exclamation point as the Racers stretched the lead.
UNOH maintained control down the stretch and closed out the 87-66 victory. The win improves the Racers to 6-9 on the season.
