KALIDA, Ohio — St. John’s leaned on senior star Cameron Elwer to open the season with a 45–30 road win over Kalida on Friday night.

Elwer, last year’s Ohio Mr. Basketball runner-up and a Furman commit, wasted no time getting the Blue Jays on the board. He drove to the rim for the team’s first points of the season, setting the tone for an early St. John’s surge.

Behind their standout guard, the Blue Jays built a 21–10 lead in the first half. Elwer showcased his athleticism throughout, including a smooth left-handed finish as St. John’s stayed in control.

Kalida began to settle in offensively as Owen Grime cut the deficit to seven with a strong move inside, and Parker Vorst followed with a mid-range jumper to keep the Wildcats competitive.

But St. John’s never lost its grip on the game. Elwer finished with 25 points to guide the Blue Jays to a comfortable season-opening win.

St. John’s improved to 1–0 with the 45–30 victory.
