ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Activate Allen County met with community partners to address pressing health needs in the area.
Area partners with Activate Allen County announced the 2023 to 2026 Community Health Improvement plan which addresses key health concerns including housing stock, substance abuse, and food insecurities. Allen County was among several counties in Ohio to see record overdose deaths in 2022. Community leaders say their goal is to create equal access to healthy environments and support programs.
"The plan is a three-year plan, and it's a pretty aggressive plan. We're looking at how can we as a community respond to the individuals who are struggling with drug overdoses or mental health crises, and ensure that they are able to get back to what we consider a typical, normal life where they are able to be the members of society that they were before they were gripped by the addiction or mental health crisis that they are dealing with," stated Brandon Fischer, Commissioner of Allen County Public Health.
The latest health plan comes on the heels of an extensive assessment completed in 2021 that revealed everything from healthcare coverage to the percentage of residents who regularly visit a doctor.
