Workers from one of the hardest hit buildings by Tuesday's tornado in Celina is sifting through it's merchandise, looking for items that can be saved, and tossing the rest.
Your News Now's Marissa Sherer has information on what's next for the Aldi store.
"My husband and I were going to shop for a ham for Sunday and he thought he'd put it off till Wednesday, well Tuesday night Aldi's got hit by the tornado, so we were a day late," Aldi Shopper Joyce Conrad said.
Now instead of selling hams, Aldi workers in Celina spent the afternoon throwing them away. Much of the food left on the torn-apart shelves in the store will have to be thrown away, but some went to a local food pantry.
Tuesday night's tornado not only left a trail of destruction outside, but inside the Aldi store as well.
The tornado hit the east wall, ripped off the roof, and threw it to the other side of the building.
Insurance adjusters spent much of the day surveying the damage while workers cleaned up as much as they could. The seven employees at Aldi aren't out of a job. Now they'll work at stores in neighboring towns.
Workers and shoppers from other stores near Aldi say they were shocked and relieved to see the tornado hadn't touched many other businesses.
"I think its just a one in 100 chance of missing it," Aldi shopper Wayne Wadsworth, said.
"It's really strange isn't it, that somebody's that got all the damage next door to you and we have none that's really strange. We were without power yesterday so we were closed, but we came in and worked inside the store with flashlights," Conrad, who is also the Department Manager at Peebles, said.
Now the question many Aldi shoppers have is, what's next for the store?
"Now that Aldi's is gone they didn't know where they were going to go they were going to start supporting Chief's. I don't know how long its going to take them to get back up and running, but I'm sure the people will hope so because I know a lot of people that go there," Leslie Triplett, who lives in St. Marys, said.
"They'll come back. It will come back. It will just take time," Conrad predicted.
Aldi echoed that message, saying whether it renovates the store or tears it down and starts over, it will be back.
