Wapakoneta erupts late to outlast Elida in their WBL softball opener

ELIDA (WLIO) — Wapakoneta broke open a tight game with a massive late surge to defeat Elida 17-9 in a Western Buckeye League softball opener.
Elida’s Mia Mammone highlighted the early innings with a strikeout and heads-up double play to keep the game scoreless through two.
Wapakoneta struck first in the third when Shabryanna Worthington laid down a sacrifice bunt that brought in two runs. Avery Sheipline followed with an RBI single as part of a five-run inning for the Redskins.
After falling behind 7-6 entering the sixth inning, Wapakoneta responded in a big way, scoring 11 straight runs to take control.
Sophia Knife tossed a complete game for the Redskins, recording 10 strikeouts over seven innings in the win.
