LIMA, OH (WLIO) — A Lima councilman wants to give students an extra blessing before they start the school year.
Derry Glenn is inviting the community to Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday for a prayer service for local students.
Students will soon be returning to the classroom, with Lima Central Catholic starting Wednesday and Catholic elementary schools and Lima City Schools starting next week.
Glenn says that, much like there are blessings for motorcycle riders to promote safety before the summer, he would like to do the same for local students.
“I thought it was very important that we pray for our kids. We should pray from all year long, but I want to do a special prayer for them returning back to school. All kids, not just Lima kids, all surrounding schools. We're going to start at 12:00 p.m. and it won't last that long, but we want everyone to come out and be able to do this. And we want the parents there with the kids send a prayer for them and let them know that we care about them,” says Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th ward councilman.
The prayer service will begin at noon Saturday and is open to all denominations, students and their families.
