LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Local children will have the opportunity to speak openly about the topics that matter to them during the next session of "Straight Talk, No Cap" this Friday.
The program, sponsored by Better Life Advocates, LACNIP and Team Outreach, is a two-hour gathering designed for children ages 10 to 15. Participants are encouraged to talk freely about topics they find important while helping bridge the communication gap between young people and adults.
Jenalda Cowan, an organizer, said the program gives adults an opportunity to better understand how children want to communicate.
"I feel like it's important for us to learn how to communicate with the kids, how they want to communicate with us. So just trying to bridge the gap between how they're feeling and what they want to discuss versus us just talking to them."
The children are invited to LACNIP's Lima Neighborhoods in Partnership building Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Organizers say participants will be welcomed with respect, honesty and support.
The event will also include free food, music, giveaways and activities focused on having fun.
