LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) -Â The Allen County Auditor's office calibrated fuel trucks Wednesday morning to make sure consumers and vendors are getting the fuel they need.
The office is required by a state statute to calibrate fuel trucks once a year to ensure they are within the state tolerance levels.
Officials with the office collaborated with the state to use a prover tank to check that the trucks are carrying the reported amount of fuel. Drivers emptied 100 gallons of fuel from their tanks into the prover tank to see if their levels were correct and to receive certification.
Auditor Rachael Gilroy said the service helps protect both consumers and vendors by making sure that they are receiving the amount of fuel they purchased.
"When we're doing this, we're protecting the vendors and the consumers both,"Â said Gilroy
"The vendors don't want to have errors on their side either. We're making sure the vendors are distributing 100 gallons and the consumers are receiving that 100 gallons to make sure that consumer safety practices are being followed."
Trucks from numerous private entities, including Marathon and the Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, were sent to the Allen County Fairgrounds for calibration. Gilroy said the collaboration gives vendors and drivers a free way to certify their trucks.
