ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Land Bank receiving grant dollars from the state to start addressing dilapidated buildings in commercial districts.
The land bank is now in possession of the property at 138 East Wayne Street and it is in total disrepair. Because of its location in downtown Lima as a "historic" district, they had to approach the City of Lima's Design Review Board to get permission to tear it down. The board approved the request and the structure will come down.
"So we are seeking a demo permit to allow us to use some grant funds to tear that building down. We're going to return it to green space and then potentially turn it over to Allen County for future development or other uses for the county," explained Rachael Gilroy, Allen County Auditor.
The land bank received a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development for commercial property acquisitions. The Wayne Street building should be down within a month.
