Residents who believe their property has been appraised too high or too low can file a complaint with the Allen County Board of Revision to review the value on record.
Allen County Auditor Rachael Gilroy said it is not uncommon for property owners to file complaints about their valuations. She explained that properties are typically appraised in groups rather than individually, and appraisers do not enter homes during the process.
Because of that, some changes to a home’s interior may not be reflected in the valuation.

"So there are absolutely times that you may have changes, especially within your home, that we're not aware of, that if you bring to our attention, we may be able to make some corrections to those records, and that's our ultimate goal is just to make sure that our records are correct and that it reflects the accurate market value of your home."
Property owners can find the “Complaint Against the Valuation of Real Property” form and instructions on the auditor’s website.
Gilroy said it is important for residents to include photographs that help officials make an informed decision about the property’s value. She also recommends dropping off the completed form at the auditor’s office on the first floor of the Allen County Courthouse rather than mailing it, since the deadline to file is March 31.
