LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Florida semi driver involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 75 on February 28 is now facing charges in Lima Municipal Court.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has charged Yvio Michel with negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter, and failure to maintain an assured clear distance.

Troopers say he failed to slow down for traffic that was backed up because of another incident, and his semi struck multiple vehicles.

Hurshel Gipson, 52, and his 11-year-old son were killed in the crash. The driver of their vehicle, Amanda Gipson, 45, was seriously injured. Michel and two other people were also injured during the crash.

Michel is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Thursday in Lima Municipal Court.
