LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A new school is opening in downtown Lima.

Buckeye Community Schools is a public high school with an alternative learning environment, using creative ways to engage students and help ensure they graduate. The school offers an individualized approach to traditional high school, tailored to each student’s unique needs and interests. Students can work at their own pace, choose their path at graduation, and even maintain a job around their schedule.

“We service students 14–22. If they’re 21, they can enroll and have until the end of the year to finish their high school diploma. It is a tier I diploma. Every student has one teacher they work with who is their advocate and in their corner,” said Lynn Slone, principal of Buckeye Community School.

She says this one-on-one teaching style benefits students who need additional support in the classroom. Those interested in learning more about Buckeye Community School are encouraged to visit the school’s website.
