The Allen County Engineers Office is gearing up for its annual road summer road program.
It was announced Tuesday that there will be a 34% increase in the amount of paving that will be done across the county. Nearly 20 miles of roadway will be paved with additional 53 miles to be sealed. It has a price tag of 2.7 million dollars generated from motor vehicle gas tax, motor vehicle license plate fees, and the county’s permissive license plate tax. An additional 11 miles of roadway will be paved this spring in a contracted paving project.
Allen County Engineer Brion Rhodes explains, “We’re doing something new this year. We actually have in the county a 1.1 million dollar spring paving project and then we’ll be doing our annual road program with chip and seal and our county paving work for the townships and ourselves. And then in the fall, we’ll also be doing a 1.2 million dollar OPWC fall paving project as well.”
Rhodes says the spring project cost is locked in and the summer road program could fluctuate with the cost of materials.
