LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Local entrepreneurs will benefit from a grant aimed at expanding programming and services to help them succeed.

The American Electric Power Ohio Foundation presented the Walter C. Potts Entrepreneur Center with a $15,000 check Monday to assist in the center’s efforts to build and support small businesses in Lima and Allen County.

John Recker, customer external affairs manager for AEP Ohio, said the donation reflects the company’s commitment to supporting local growth.

“We believe that the Potts Center and the Lima chamber are organizations that in their mission to support Lima's entrepreneurs and small businesses,” Recker said. “We just think it's a great partnership to help Lima thrive.”

Jessie Pope, director of the Walter C. Potts Entrepreneur Center, said the funding will allow the center to expand offerings for the business community.

“Hopefully we can grow more programs and be able to do more workshops centered around some of the new challenges that are facing small businesses,” Pope said.

One of those challenges, he noted, is artificial intelligence and how best to use it to support business growth.
