LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — After four days of testimony, it took an Allen County jury only a few hours to reach a verdict in the case of a Haitian national charged with killing his female roommate.
Gervens Justilien, 33, was found guilty of aggravated murder, murder, strangulation and rape in the death of 26-year-old Chrislande Auguste. He has been sentenced to 41 years to life in prison. In March 2024, both were living in the same home on Makley Drive in American Township with other Haitian nationals.
The Lucas County coroner determined that Auguste died from strangulation and blunt force trauma. During the trial, Justilien admitted he had sex with Auguste but denied killing her. Authorities said he fled after the crime and was later arrested in Rhode Island by the U.S. Marshals Service.
