LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Ohio’s former health department director spoke to local Democrats about her campaign for governor during a visit to Allen County.

Amy Acton visits Lima, talks Gubernatorial bid with local Democrats

Acton criticized current state leaders for failing to prioritize the needs of Ohioans, saying she hopes to shift the culture she sees in Columbus.

Amy Acton stopped by the Allen County Democratic Headquarters to discuss her candidacy. She said she gained valuable insight into the workings of the governor’s office while serving as the state’s health director during the COVID-19 pandemic. Acton criticized current state leaders for failing to prioritize the needs of Ohioans, saying she hopes to shift the culture she sees in Columbus.

“I will ‘not’ not be tough enough. But you will see me also be calm and kind. Because I don't think you stop hate with a bunch more hate and a bunch more screaming,” said Acton.

Acton is the only Democrat who has officially entered the race for governor. Three Republicans have also declared their candidacies.
