LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Area residents getting the chance to dispose of important documents without worries.
Cars were lined up as the Area Agency on Aging 3 held one of their community shred-a-thon's. People were able to just drive up and volunteers were there to unload the documents and have them shredded on site. Agency officials say the event gets bigger each year and is a great service to provide for residents.
"By having the shred-a-thon, we can help guarantee that people's identities are going to be safe," said Jolene Highley, director of marketing and communication for AAA3. "Older adults fall victim to that more and more often, so this way we can offer this free service a couple times a year. Individuals can feel safe that their stuff is protected and it's going to be securely shredded."
Highley says each year the event gets bigger and they will continue to provide the shredding opportunity several times a year. They served 163 cars filling the truck more than 90-percent full of shredded documents.
