Students from as far as Dayton, Piqua, and Bowling Green joined local participants from Shawnee, Lima Senior, and St. Marys to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through interactive labs.

Participants took part in activities such as sorting and identifying bones in a mock archaeology dig and creating nylon in the chemistry lab. Organizers emphasized the importance of encouraging young women to pursue STEM fields, while students appreciated the chance to connect with peers who share their interests.

"I've always had an interest in the STEM field, and when I saw this opportunity, it was pretty exciting to be able to do hands-on activities," said Lily Dailey, a student from Shawnee High School. "In school, we don’t really get to do a lot of hands-on work, especially in chemistry classes. This experience was more in-depth, and it was fun to be with others who have similar interests."

Bryan Albright, Assistant Dean for Student Success at Ohio State Lima, highlighted the campus's offerings for students interested in STEM careers.

"Ohio State has a lot of opportunities. Specifically, here at Lima, we have a full zoology and biology degree that students can complete," Albright said. "We also have the engineering technology program. Today, the girls are getting a chance to do hands-on activities with some of our instructors."

The event also featured several guest speakers, including Dr. Alison Gardner, an associate professor of equine emergency and critical care at Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
