LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Boys and Girls Club has hit the ground running within the Lima community since opening its doors last August. Inspiring young people to reach their full potential as productive and responsible citizens began with only 20 members and now has 70 enrolled in just four months.
In the classroom, students K-12 engage in interactive educational and curriculum-based learning activities with a focus on growth and development. Notable signs of students coming out of their shells and forming relationships amongst each other have served as a driving force to the program's early success.
"It's been a lot easier making friends here. Usually, I'm always shy and never talk to anyone. Now that I'm here, I'm talkative and energetic," said Carrtier Armstead, Boys and Girls Club member.
Fellow member Raelynn Holtzapple added, "We play games with our friends in the classroom, and we also do some paperwork that helps us learn different things, like leadership."
"I think this program is very important. Not only this program, but programs like this. We like to promote other programs that engage youth because it's one of those building-up things. We have to invest in our youth. If we're investing in our community, our youth are the most important thing for the future of our community," stated Junior Ramos, Unit Director, Boys and Girls Club.
