May 13, 2025, Press Release from America 250 - Ohio:
COLUMBUS, Ohio — America 250-Ohio, the official state commission responsible for spearheading Ohio's celebrations and commemorations around America’s semiquincentennial in 2026, Murals Across Ohio is presented in partnership with the Ohio Arts Council. The initial launch reflects 47 murals in the Southwest and Northwest part of the state. Murals from all regions of the state will be added in the coming months.
Ohio is home to thousands of murals, gracing the sides of barns, factory buildings, downtown high rises, and other structures. Murals Across Ohio honors the artists who think big - and paint even bigger - and the stories behind some of the state’s colorful and creative public paintings. Murals that are officially part of the program receive an America 250-Ohio vinyl decal to affix to the artwork or building, and are included in an interactive map housed on the America 250-Ohio website. The map is designed to help Ohioans plan visits to see the murals as they travel around the state this summer. Applications for murals to be added to the program are still being accepted throughout the remainder of 2025 and into 2026.
“Featured murals capture historical milestones, celebrate unique cultures, or envision a brighter tomorrow,” said Donna Collins, Executive Director of the Ohio Arts Council. “New mural sites will be regularly added to the map through 2026, and there are currently more than 100 murals in the pipeline to unveil. Everyone is invited to use the Murals Across Ohio map to discover great art and great places from small towns and big cities!”
Select highlights of the Murals Across Ohio program include “Pumpkin Show 100th Anniversary” by Eric Henn in Circleville, “Glass City River Wall” by Gabe Gault in Toledo, and “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” by Brandon Hawkins in Cincinnati. Images are available here.
