LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Foreign policy, immigration, tariffs and the economy were among the key issues discussed Thursday during the Allen County Republican Party’s monthly luncheon, which drew a large crowd to hear from U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan.

The Ohio Republican, who represents the state’s 4th Congressional District, addressed attendees and answered questions on a range of national topics. One focus was President Donald Trump’s use of executive authority under Article II of the U.S. Constitution in relation to recent military actions involving Iran.

“I mean, I certainly agree with the President's objectives, and as Commander in Chief, I think he's functioned completely within his power and authority. We cannot let this regime, the most evil regime on the planet, the largest state sponsor of terrorism, kill countless number of Americans, Israelis, others around the world, and frankly, 1000s of their own people. You cannot let them get a nuclear weapon. And the President was clear about this. He said this when he ran for the job in 24 he's not gonna let Iran get a nuclear weapon. That's our objective,” Jordan said.

In addition to the luncheon, Jordan made several stops in Lima, including a visit to the Lima Noon Optimist Club and Lima Police Safety City. It was his first time touring the Safety City facility, where local officials demonstrated how the program creates realistic scenarios to teach children about weather and fire emergencies.

“Just another great, great program offered by great guys who do great service for all of us in this community, and we appreciate that,” Jordan said.

During his visit, the congressman also met with Lima Police Officer Brice Metz, who was shot during a traffic stop on Halloween last year. Jordan had previously called Metz during his recovery to check on his condition.
