ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — More than a dozen Elida students are digging into the world of dinosaurs as part of the school district’s summer library program.

The dinosaur-themed camp gives children entering kindergarten through fifth grade the opportunity to explore paleontology through reading, drawing, painting and hands-on crafts. The program is held every Wednesday morning throughout June and is designed to encourage learning and creativity during summer break.

Organizers say the camp helps students stay engaged academically while providing a fun and interactive environment centered around their interest in dinosaurs.

Dinosaur-themed library program keeps Elida children learning during summer break

“Well, this program just has the kids come in, they're listening to stories, they're able to check out books at the end. If they want to take some home to keep reading throughout the summer, we do activities that match the book that we're reading,” said Mandy Henderson, district media specialist.

The summer library program features a different theme each week. Upcoming sessions will include Dinosaur Discoveries, Fossils, Footprints and Clues, and Unearth a Story. In addition to participating in themed activities, children have the opportunity to check out books and continue reading at home throughout the summer months.

Organizers say students may attend a single session or participate in all four camps, allowing families flexibility while encouraging a continued love of reading and learning.
