LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A leukemia doctor spoke with the Allen County Democrats about his candidacy for Ohio’s next secretary of state.
Bryan Hambley emphasized the importance of the secretary of state’s office in ensuring fair and honest elections, as well as establishing equitable political districts across Ohio. He said his goal is to maintain a democracy that serves all Ohioans. As he listened to local Democrats’ concerns, Hambley outlined his priorities if elected to the position.

“Two critical things we need are fair districts that are drawn by an independent commission, not by politicians. And second, we need honest ballot language when we go to vote on constitutional amendments in Ohio,” said Bryan Hambley, Democratic candidate for Ohio secretary of state.
Hambley also shared his broader vision for the state’s future.
“I think we need Ohio that works for public education, for safe roads, for excellent health care, and I think we need a democracy that allows people to influence their politicians, and that's critical to build a better Ohio,” he added.
Hambley said he plans to travel across the state over the next year to hear from voters as he prepares for the 2026 election season. Meanwhile, Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague has announced his candidacy for secretary of state on the Republican primary ticket.
