LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima man accused of shooting a police officer has been indicted on multiple charges by an Allen County Grand Jury.
Emerson Jeffrey, 35, was indicted on four counts of felonious assault, two counts of improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle, and one count each of having weapons under disability, discharging a firearm near a prohibited premises, and carrying a concealed weapon. The charges stem from an Oct. 31 incident in which Officer Bryce Metz was injured.
According to the Lima Police Department and video released from the incident, the vehicle Jeffrey was in was pulled over during a traffic stop. "Metz and other officers approached the vehicle. Jeffrey fired at Metz and the other officers, and they returned fire. Both Metz and Jeffrey had gunshot injuries."
The Ohio Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident. Metz was released from the hospital a few days after the shooting.
Jeffrey’s bond was increased to $2.5 million. He is currently in the Allen County Jail after being released from the hospital last week. His first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 2.
