LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Family Promise of Lima hit the greens once again for its 7th annual Golf Scramble, one of the organization’s biggest fundraising events of the year.

The event helps raise crucial funds to provide shelter and support services for families experiencing homelessness in the Lima area. Local businesses and organizations stepped up by sponsoring holes, tee boxes, and the putting green to boost donations. Participants also enjoyed fun games and on-course contests, including the longest drive competition on hole 18.

Family Promise of Lima hosts 7th annual golf scramble to support homeless families

"It helps with everyday operations. We take a lot of donations for feeding the families, but everyday operations, building expenses, supplies, but we're always looking for donations to help out with the families," said Rockland McDonald, vice president with Family Promise of Lima.

"It's very humbling, it really is. To know that there are people out there in the community that of a town just size of Lima, how everybody comes to a cause that's worthwhile to help people in the community, to help the homeless in the area. They come out and they say, 'Hey, we wanna come out and help out.' They said, 'We come out. We are horrible at golf, but we like coming out having a good time.' So that's kind of that's the heartwarming thing about all of it," said Rick Shields, president of Family Promise of Lima.

Organizers expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors and golfers who made the event possible, noting that the support is essential to continuing their mission.
