LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Safety is a top priority when it comes to using firearms, and the Lima Sabres Shooting Association emphasized that message during its recent Women on Target instructional shooting clinic.

Hands-on gun safety training empowers local women

Participants began the day learning the basics of firearm safety before receiving one-on-one instruction in handgun, rifle, and shotgun shooting.

The empowering, hands-on event introduces women to the safe and fun use of firearms in a supportive and educational environment. Participants began the day learning the basics of firearm safety before receiving one-on-one instruction in handgun, rifle, and shotgun shooting. Whether attendees were brand new to firearms or looking to sharpen their skills, the clinic offered a safe and engaging way to gain experience.

"I think it's very important for everyone to know gun safety, or firearm safety. I've even had women that's come through here and their husbands have always had guns at home and stuff like that and they didn't know anything about them. So they wanted to learn, and have come out here and learned," said Sheri Markley, director of special events with the Lima Sabres.

The Lima Sabres Shooting Association hosts the Women on Target event twice a year. The next clinic is scheduled for Sept. 21.
