LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — For some Heir Force Community School students, Monday marked not only the first day of school but also the first day in a new building.

Dozens of local leaders and educators were on hand for the opening of the school’s new kindergarten through third-grade building, located at the corner of North Main Street and Grand Avenue. The facility can accommodate up to 125 students, with a teacher-to-student ratio of 1 to 20 to provide more individualized instruction.

“This is celebrating the future workforce of the city of Lima and all of Allen County,” said Dr. Willie Heggins, executive director of Heir Force Community School. “I mean, just like every school system around here, our job is to get kids prepared for tomorrow’s workforce and we’re excited to be a part of making that investment in our community, and more definitively for the future of our community.”

Heggins and city officials said the opening of the school demonstrates the power of what public-private projects can achieve.
