LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Cybersecurity is one of the most in-demand careers, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting significant growth over the next 10 years.

To introduce students to the field, the Allen County Educational Service Center and the Lima Area Chamber Foundation are hosting a Cybersecurity Career Exploration Day at the Hub at Central District. The event will give high school students an opportunity to learn about defending computer systems from attacks and explore the possibility of earning a cybersecurity certificate.

High School students invited to learn cybersecurity at local event

“We're offering this to any student, high school student, that would like to learn about cyber security. And then it's an introductory class. So after they go through this class, if they want to go through the actually certificate program, credential program, then they'll be able to do that. So it's sort of sparked their interest. Let them know what cyber security is all about, and also let them know the opportunities, the career opportunities for that pathway,” said Jed Metzger, executive director of the Lima Area Chamber Foundation.

Students interested in participating should speak with their guidance counselor or principal to sign up for the event on Nov. 6.
