LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Lima Buckeyes learned about various clubs and organizations they can get involved with on campus.

Ohio State Lima offers more than 20 different groups for new and returning students to join. The organizations shared what they have to offer, including opportunities to learn teamwork, community involvement and leadership skills.

School officials hope students will come to campus for more than just an education, but to gain a full college experience.

“I think one of the most important things about a university education isn't just the degree you get for going to classes, it's about all the extracurricular activities you do, the people you meet, what you learn that isn't in a classroom can be just as important and your adult life as what you learn in the classroom, sometimes even more important,” says Dr. Mark Kleffner, Associate Dean, Ohio State Lima.

Students also had the chance to grab some cake to celebrate 65 years since the first class in Lima.

“It's hard to believe it started 65 years ago with faculty being flown in to the Lima airport and then being driven to the Lima high school for their courses, until we finally had a campus out here that students could go to,” adds Kleffner.

Ohio State Lima will hold other events throughout the year to celebrate the anniversary.
